Valerie Chambers is a self-sufficient woman working her way to the top of the accounting firm where she works. She’s shed her past life of partying hard, much to the dismay of her best friend Jordan (who is still enjoying the wild party life) and is focused on being the best at what she does. Even though she is very much career driven, she still finds time to have fun once in a while. Jordan sets Valerie up on a blind date with her most recent boy toy's cousin, Edric.

“Edric was simply gorgeous. No, that was too mild a word for him, he was stunning, dazzling, exquisite, damn near angelic.” And that sums up Edric… except he’s hiding a secret and that secret will change everything!

Little did Valerie know that this one blind date would change the course of her life forever! She learns family secrets and the truth about herself.

Ms. Gilmore does an excellent job at character development. Not a single character in this book fell flat; and that says a lot since we are introduced to a handful of people throughout. And the twist at the end….I can honestly say that I NEVER saw that coming! While story lines do tend to get predictable once it’s all put out there, Ms. Gilmore really does an excellent job in keeping the reader interested in what’s coming next. Not once did I feel the need to skip over a section because I’d already figured out what would happen next (sorry, but you have to admit you've done that a time or two because it was the same ole, same ole you've read a thousand times).

The story is easy to follow and doesn't have a lot of extra information thrown in just to fill pages. The author is very descriptive when it comes to people and places and it really does just transport you right into the story.  Her writing style is clean and precise. There is just the right mix of drama, suspense, humor, and paranormal in Mahogany Sin to keep the reader engaged until the very end. Bravo, Ms. Gilmore!! Your first book sucked me in and has me anxiously awaiting the next! I can’t wait to see where you lead the characters from here. Definitely a FIVE STAR effort!

Her love of books began at a very early age thanks to the children's book clubs her mother enrolled her in every year. Whenever the briefcase shaped boxes that contained her new books arrived at her doorstep, she opened them immediately, filled with joy and anticipation.
